DMS School Read - 'A Single Shard' - This innovative project coordinates the community reading of one book, an effort designed to bring the DMS together as a community.  DEF funded the development of this project, as well as a visit by Linda Sue Park, the author of “A Single Shard” to the Duxbury Middle School.  

Where Everyone Belongs - “Where Everyone Belongs” (WEB) is a subsidiary of Link Crew, a successful program which DEF funded in 2004.  It is a transition program for Alden School students, that welcomes sixth graders to DMS.  DEF funded a grant for staff training for this innovative program. 



Jewelry Making in 3D Art - This grant funded the purchase of new equipment, tools and materials to explore and expand this popular program at Duxbury High School.  

Robotics Grant - DEF funded an innovative programming and robotic initiative for the elementary schools. Combining a programming language with robots, the initiative provides an environment that encourages reflective thinking, uses mathematical concepts, creates problem-solving situations, encourages conversation between students as well as with teachers, and provides immediate feedback for ideas and solutions.

Naviance Software for Guidance - DEF funded the purchase of software for the guidance department to facilitate transcript administration and other key guidance functions. 

Peacebuilders Anti-violence Youth Program - Peacebuilders is an anti-violence youth program approved by the federally funded Safe and Drug Free Schools Act.  The grant funds training of the staff for the Duxbury Middle School. Pictured at left are DMS staff during Peacebuilders training on August 31, 2006.

DHS Language Department Grant - This grant funded the development of curriculum and the purchase of materials for a Russian Language Course, Spanish Conversation I and Spanish Conversation II Courses, a Hispanic Culture Course and an American Sign Language Course; all to be offered at Duxbury High School. 

SMART Board Interactive Whiteboards - Following the successful deployment of this innovative technology (funded by DEF in prior years), in the 2005-2006 school year DEF funded the purchase of five additional SMARTBoards for use in the Duxbury Middle School.   



National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation ProStart - DEF funded the purchase of materials and related supplies for a two year program at Duxbury High School that allows students to explore careers in the hotel and restaurant fields.  The expansion of the school’s “Breadboard” program will also enable students to actively cater sport and club activities.   

DHS Music Department -  
The DEF funded the purchase of a tuba for the Duxbury High School Music Department.  Additionally the DEF funded a stipend for professional musicians to work with string musicians at the High School.  The DEF funded the purchase of microphones used for recording student performances on the computer – a valuable assessment tool for refining individual & group performances. 

Student Artwork Displays - DEF provided funding for the purchase of frames, mats and plexi-glass, to be used by the Art Department to display student artwork at the Duxbury Art Association. DEF also provided funding for art portfolios to display student work.
