DEF Trustee Role Overview

Trustees of the Duxbury Education Foundation are volunteer community members who help guide the organization’s fundraising efforts and grant program that supports Duxbury Public Schools. Trustees typically serve a three-year term and work collaboratively with other board members to plan events, review grant requests, and support the mission of the foundation.

Ways Trustees Contribute

Trustees may be involved in a variety of roles, including:

Grant Program
DEF funds educational, professional development and student-led grants that directly benefit Duxbury Public Schools. The Grants Committee works with teachers, students and staff who apply for grants throughout the school year.

  • Reviewing grant applications from teachers and students
  • Serving as a liaison to help shepherd approved grants through completion

Event Planning Committees
Trustees help organize DEF’s major community fundraisers, such as:

  • July 4th Road Race
  • Divots for DEF Golf Tournament
  • Answer the Call Annual Appeal
  • Polar Plunge
  • Holly Days and other community events

Operational Support

  • Sponsorship outreach
  • Marketing and publicity
  • Graphic design
  • Website administration
  • Social media administration
  • Board Leadership - President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Secretary

Time Commitment

Most Trustee roles require a few hours per month, with slightly higher involvement during major fundraising events. Trustees are encouraged to participate in ways that match their interests, availability, and strengths.
