As a DEF Trustee, you will play a direct role in raising and directing funds that support innovative programs and meaningful opportunities for students and staff in Duxbury Public Schools. It is a hands on and rewarding way to make a real impact in our community.
About DEF
Since 1989, DEF has awarded over $2.1 million in grants to fund creative and educational initiatives across the district. This work is driven entirely by volunteers. Over the past 35+ years, nearly 250 Trustees have contributed their time, ideas, and energy to strengthen our schools.
Each year, DEF raises funds through community events such as the July 4th Road Race, Answer the Call Annual Appeal, Polar Plunge, and Divots for DEF Golf Tournament. These efforts directly fund grants submitted by Duxbury teachers and students, which are carefully reviewed and awarded by the Board.
What Trustees Do
Trustees serve a three-year term and take on an active role in the organization. Responsibilities include:
Participating in monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday at 7:30 PM, either in person or virtually
Serving on committees that plan and execute events and initiatives
Supporting fundraising efforts and community outreach
Reviewing and discussing grant proposals
The three year term begins in August and aligns with the school year. Trustees typically rotate through roles over that time, learning in year one, leading in year two, and mentoring in year three. Trustees contribute based on their interests and skills.
Why It Matters
DEF’s goal is to raise funds that directly benefit students and staff in Duxbury Public Schools. Trustees help ensure those funds are used thoughtfully and effectively, supporting ideas that enhance the student experience in meaningful ways.
